Project Description

The 500,000 sf Mercer Mall, in Lawrenceville, NJ, recently acquired a new tenant, Nordstom Rack. The newest location marked the fourth for the state. However, the owner’s acquisition of this high profile tenant didn’t come without some creative thinking.

The original mall was not constructed in a way that suits a major retail location like Nordstrom Rack, which needs upwards of 35,000 sf of floor space. This meant that there simply was not enough square footage available without expanding outward and eliminating other tenants. Rather than losing a strong tenant, what Federal Realty decided to do instead was to take an available space of 21,600 and raise the entire existing roof seven feet and then build on to suit Nordstrom Rack’s desired space.

This upward expansion proved to be an ideal solution. With the expertise of Kane Builders and ROOFLIFTERS, the Mercer Mall is now anchored by a high profile national tenant.
